W&Co are pleased to announce their innovative success in Birmingham earlier this month for Norwich Union, when they created a 20 metre line using their Titan light boxes, which were set next to a 20 metre running track.
Meeting their client's brief of creating an interesting competition for children to coincide with the World Indoor Athletic Championships. W&Co took 20 photographs of Dwain Chambers, the fastest runner in the UK, scanned, retouched and manipulated them. The image was then blown up and printed out at 2 metres high by 1 metre wide and fitted into the light boxes. They were taken to the venue installed and connected up to an electronic control system allowing the light boxes to turn on and off within 0.2 seconds creating a "chaser" effect giving the children an opportunity to test their own running skills against those of a professional.
This successful three day event was recently given 6 minute national coverage on BBC Grandstand. Alistair Marks of Norwich Union stated, The results have exceeded all our expectations, with a record number of visitors.
Our light boxes come in most standard paper sizes from A3 up to A0, in various styles and can be made to measure to suit your requirements. They can be supplied fitted with backlit film or duratrans. All our light boxes are supplied with cable and plug so all you need to do is plug them in and you are away!!
After the success with Norwich Union light boxes in March 2003 in Birmingham, W&Co have been approached again by Norwich Union, to reproduce the 20 metre line of Titan light boxes with images of Great Britain Sprinter, Darren Campbell, sprinting across the 20 metre running track.
This is to be an ongoing project, working with Norwich Union, where the light boxes and running track will be used at various venues across the UK including a main event at Trafalgar Square from the 30th - 31st July 2004.
W&Co are pleased to announce that following on from their innovative success in Birmingham for Norwich Union last year, when they created a 20 metre line using their Titan light boxes, which were set next to a 20 metre running track, they have been commissioned by Norwich Union for the second year running to produce this again using images of Great Britain Sprinter, Darren Campbell. A new addition to the set-up was a 20x2 metre PVC banner covering the backs of the light boxes also produced by W&Co.
The Norwich Union 'Sportspark' events came to the UKs Capital offering a sprint challenge to young people. The Sprint Challenge was created using photos of Darren Campbell which were expertly photo-manipulated by W&Co's Graphic Design team which were then inkjet printed onto photographic backlit media ready for the light boxes. Because the majority of the events were taking place out of doors the Titan Light Box was used, not only for its external attributes but also for its robust structure and strong luminescence.
The event frightened away the pigeons who usually inhabit Trafalgar Square and in their place came thousands of young people and their families. The centrepiece of the sporting arena was the Commonwealth Athletics' Track laid around the fountains. Darren Campbell, Olympic Silver Medallist and patron of Norwich Union star:track, was on hand to inspire the next generation of sprinters, encouraging youngster to try out the starting blocks and record their best time for running 20 metres.

W&Co are delighted to have been part of this sporting event from the design stage through to installation at Trafalgar Square and the other UK locations which staged the event, including Gateshead, Manchester, Hawkinge and Edinburgh.
