LED Acrylic Cubes Give Wings to Red Bull Events

Red Bull is always on the lookout for the latest innovative and eye-catching displays for the various sports and music events they organise and LED acrylic cubes were deemed the perfect display to really grab attention.

The first of several projects W&Co has had the pleasure of assisting  Red Bull on was for Red Bull Radio. The radio station was looking for a new method of marketing itself when filming interviews with artists that would later be published online.

The 3D fabricated acrylic cubes with internal LED illumination were selected as the product of choice. Built from high quality white opal acrylic, each side of the illuminated cube was partially printed with block-out ink so that only the Red Bull Radio text and logo would light up. Originally block out vinyl was considered, however, due to the intricate detail of the logo it would have potentially caused quality issues on the smaller cube so a direct print to the acrylic was the best method.

Once printed, the mitred edges of the acrylic panels were glued together to form the cube shape which discretely housed the LEDs and electrics for the light box. Small rubber feet were stuck to the underneath of the box where the power cable also exited from so that the box would sit flat.

The Red Bull Radio team were so impressed with the LED acrylic cubes that W&Co’s services were recommended to other departments within the company to assist with future events such as Red Bull Music Odyssey and Red Bull Amaphiko.

Music Odyssey was a truly unique maritime music event which took place on the River Thames in London. Red Bull set sail with six incredible boat parties each representing six different UK music scenes.

Amaphiko is a global programme that helps social entrepreneurs driving positive change in their corner of the world.

For both Music Odyssey and Amaphiko the same style of acrylic light boxes with a printed logo and text were manufactured although this time the LEDs were RGB colour changing and the brightness of the LED lighting could be dimmed or made brighter as required.

Red Bull’s Culture Marketing Specialist, Rohan, commented that the light boxes looked “absolutely awesome… great quality and all round wicked job. Thanks for the speedy turnaround!
