Blue Reef Aquarium Digital Display Screens

Aquatic Visitor Attraction Takes the Plunge into Digital Signage

Back in 2010, W&Co supplied and installed some of our very first interactive digital display screens for the newly opened Blue Reef Aquarium in Bristol – a landmark project that helped launch our journey into digital signage for visitor attractions.

Set within a stunning coastal-themed environment of caves, walkways, and bridges, the aquarium takes visitors on an immersive journey through the hidden world of UK waters, vibrant Mediterranean zones, and breath-taking tropical coral reefs teeming with exotic marine life. The captivating exhibits showcase an incredible range of species, offering a unique chance to explore the rich biodiversity of our oceans.

To support the aquarium’s educational mission and elevate the visitor experience, we installed a series of 32″ digital touchscreen displays throughout the venue. These interactive displays offered guests the opportunity to dive deeper into the marine life they encountered — from graceful angelfish and zebra sharks to blacktip reef sharks and other colourful tropical species. By simply tapping on the relevant images, visitors could access detailed facts, species names, habitat information, and behavioural insights. The digital screens allowed guests to discover fascinating facts they might otherwise have missed, enhancing the overall experience.

Each screen was powered by Samsung’s MagicInfo software, giving the aquarium team an intuitive, easy-to-manage content system that could be updated quickly to keep information fresh and engaging. The installation proved a great success and was a standout early example of how digital signage technology can enhance engagement, education, and interactivity in settings like aquariums, museums, and other visitor attractions.

Fifteen years later, it’s still a project we’re proud of — one that laid the foundations for the many digital display solutions we’ve delivered since, across a wide range of sectors.
