3 Things to Consider Before You Buy Outdoor Digital Displays

Before investing in Outdoor Digital Displays, the three main areas of concern from clients are typically centred around weather-resistance, security, and maintenance. In this article we will go over each of these topics and help you get to know W&Co’s ‘Aura’ Outdoor Digital Screen range.

Weather-Resistance:

It is recommended that outdoor LED displays have an IP rating of at least IP54, and ideally IP65. An IP Rating (Ingress Protection Rating) is a way of showing the effectiveness of electrical enclosures in blocking foreign bodies such as dust, moisture, liquids, and accidental contact. W&Co’s ‘Aura’ range of wall mounted and freestanding outdoor digital screens have a robust IP65 rated enclosure, which means they are protected against all wet weather conditions and airborne dust particles.

Security:

In addition to being IP Rated, W&Co’s ‘Aura’ range of digital signage also include an IK Rating (Impact Kinetic Rating). The IK rating is the impact protection rating given to electrical equipment enclosures. It is a 1 to 10 system with a higher number indicating a more robust product able to withstand a greater impact.

W&Co’s ‘Aura’ outdoor wall mounted and ‘Aura’ outdoor freestanding LCD displays come with extra strong safety glass front panels, awarding them the highest Impact Protection rating of IK10.

For additional security and to prevent theft of the screen, it is recommended that the outdoor wall mounted screens should be locked to the bracket with a padlock.

As well as physical attacks, customers are often worried about cyber-attacks or the screens content being meddled with. Fortunately, W&Co’s screens have security measures to prevent such attacks.

For customers who update their screen via the USB port, there is an option within the settings menu to disable the USB port which can only be accessed by the remote control. So you can have peace of mind that members of the public cannot tamper with the screen’s content.

Customers who connect their screens to a network and update their screens remotely via Wi-Fi, LAN or 4G, can physically disconnect the USB port to prevent physical tampering on site.

Screens with a network upgrade that use our CMS (My Signage Portal), are hosted on an Amazon Web Services (AWS) server https://aws.amazon.com, using an SSL encryption method and an ISO 27001 Security Certification. Vulnerability scan takes place monthly, as well as the operating system (OS) for the server being updated and patched monthly by AWS. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of your outdoor digital displays will help to extend its life expectancy and minimise hardware related failures.

For the ‘Aura’ Wall Mounted Outdoor Screens, it is recommended that, every 1-3 months, the vents are vacuumed to ensure they are free from debris and the rear, sides and front are cleaned with an alcohol-free cleaning solution.

For the ‘Aura’ Freestanding Outdoor Screens, it is recommended that, every 1-3 months, the front is opened and thoroughly cleared of debris, dust and cobwebs. Depending on the location, the rear, sides and front should also be cleaned with an alcohol-free cleaning solution.

For customers with screens at multiple sites we offer regular maintenance packages.
