Indigo at the O2
Illuminated Signs are a show stopper at the O2
Stunning illuminated signs were designed, manufactured and installed at the main entrance and VIP entrance of Indigo at the O2, the dedicated entertainment venue at the O2 arena.
New illuminated signage was required by Indigo as they were having a rebrand, from IndigO2 to Indigo at the O2, so the logo and colour scheme had changed. They also wanted to increase awareness of the VIP entrance which was being missed by visitors due to the lack of noticeable signs. Having previously successfully supplied illuminated way finding signage within the arena, W&Co was chosen to help with their requirements.
Members of W&Co’s team visited O2’s Venue Management to discuss the best way of implementing the new branding onto the large curved wall of the main entrance and also to explore potential improvements to the visibility of the VIP Entrance. Various solutions were established and W&Co’s design team drew up some 3D design proposals to enable the client to envisage how each custom sign installation would look.
After a few modifications to the designs, and consultations with The O2’s brand guardians to ensure all strict guidelines were met, the finalised designs for the signs were approved.
It was decided that the main entrance sign was to have the lettering from the Indigo at the O2 logo as face illuminated built up letters fixed to a sign tray. The sign tray in turn was to have stencil cut circles in backed with opal acrylic which were to illuminate in the different colours of the logo. The whole sign would also have to curve with the curve of the wall it was to be mounted to.
The VIP entrance was to have a wraparound illuminated sign tray fascia above the entrance doors with the Indigo at the O2 logo stencil cut on both returning sides and the wording ‘VIP Entrance’ along the front.
The fabrication of the main entrance sign had to be carefully planned not only due to the scale and complex design of the signage but because of the irregularity of the curved mounting surfaces for which templates had to be produced as accurately as possible for a perfect fit. The completed curved sign measures 5 metres x 2.5 metres and is very attention-grabbing as soon as you walk into the O2.
Careful manufacture of the VIP entrance sign also had to be implemented due to its long span including two curved returning sides that went around the corners. The total length was just over 13 metres long and it was 1metre high all the way along making it a very impressive illuminated sign in its own right.
The client was very happy with the finished look and was confident that the new signs would be much more noticeable to guests attending the events.
