HKX Freestanding Illuminated Sign Letters

Signs Made to the Letter

W&Co produced a striking set of custom-built large freestanding illuminated sign letters for the award-winning Havas King’s Cross (HKX) headquarters in London.

The bespoke lower-case “h”, “k” and “x” illuminated sign letters stand at around 1500mm tall by 750mm wide and were engineered to be both highly impactful and versatile. Each letter of the sign was mounted on discreet castors, allowing them to be moved individually and repositioned within the space as required.

The illuminated faces were fabricated from opal acrylic with a mix of flat surfaces and dynamic projecting strips that extended 30–40mm from the face in vertical, horizontal and diagonal patterns. This created a unique striped texture and depth effect, particularly eye-catching on the ‘x’. The specialist fabrication techniques are similar to those we apply in our acrylic illuminated displays, designed to create striking visual presence in modern environments. The fabrication of this intricate light up signage lettering also highlights our expertise in custom illuminated signs and sign letters that combine creativity with functionality.

The illuminated sign letters were internally lit to deliver a clean white glow through the acrylic surfaces, ensuring strong visibility day and night. When positioned in the upper-level windows of the HKX building, the glowing letters shone out across the streets of London, reinforcing the identity of Havas’s global headquarters in Kings Cross and adding a contemporary design feature to the architectural façade. For larger spaces, we also create large format displays that work alongside statement lettering to achieve maximum impact.

Not only did the HKX building win Best Fit Out of Workplace Award at the BCO Awards 2018 for creating an inspirational and collaborative environment. The illuminated sign letters themselves were recognised within the signage industry, with the HKX letters being Highly Commended at the BSGA Sign Awards.
